Matthias Murmann, born in Aachen in 1984, studied Film and Television at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln). In 2012, he co-founded the Cologne-Ehrenfeld-based production company btf (bildundtonfabrik) together with Philipp Käßbohrer.
As a showrunner and executive producer, as well as a writer and director, he has realized a wide range of projects with btf, including TV shows, series, documentaries, feature films, art projects, commercials, and music videos. btf’s productions have received numerous awards, including 15 prestigious Grimme Awards and 11 German Television Awards.
Current productions include the series HOW TO SELL DRUGS (Fast) Season 4 (Netflix), SPÄTI (ZDFneo), PERFEKT VERPASST and PERFEKT ZUSAMMEN (Amazon Prime Video), the TV shows DIE CAROLIN KEBEKUS SHOW (ARD), MAITHINK X (ZDFneo), and the entertainment show SMYPATHISCH (funk); as well as the documentary series MISSION SOMMERMÄRCHEN (ZDF) and the documentary POLDI (Netflix).
