Hell Raymond-Hayling (they/them) is an R&D Engineer at BBC R&D, where their research addresses how emerging AI technologies can support and expand the creative and technical capabilities of production work across the BBC.

Recent work includes developing a virtual production system for a low cost television use case, combining Gaussian splats for virtual backgrounds with open-source tracking technology. Previous projects in BBC R&D include retraining large transcription models to better parse regional accents, and applying AI source separation for dialogue enhanced mixes for television programming. Hell also has spent time working directly on BBC productions in studio, on location and in post-production to understand their challenges and inform the research programme at BBC R&D.

Prior to this role, Hell completed a MSci in Physics from the University of Bristol and their PhD in Biophysics at the University of Manchester.
